Our Afternoon Delight

Posted on March 7th, 2010 by Jose Farrugia

It’s getting pretty hot here in Cebu and the rest of the Philippines. We are all experiencing a form of drought, commonly known as “El Niño”. Manila is facing the full front of the drought as water rationing is already taking place. Nonetheless, out with the negativity.

Twinkle and myself  tried out Carlo’s Batchoy, a restaurant, in BOULEVARD, Jones Avenue where they are famous for serving Batchoy and fried dishes. My girlfriend ordered their famous Batchoy while I went with the conventional fried pork chop. The Batchoy costs around P42 while the pork chop at P75 (that includes one cup of rice).

Batchoy is a noodle soup made with pork organs, crushed pork cracklings, shrimp, vegetables, chicken stock, chicken breast, beef loin and round noodles. – Wikipedia

Moreover, after our late lunch we headed to Mango Square Parking Lot. We actually planned on going to the parking lot a week or two as I mentioned it to Twinkle as an awesome shooting location (Thanks to Georgia Jauslin’s portfolio pictures).

It wasn’t the best time to shoot as it was in the middle afternoon, the light was strong and it was unbelievably hot. The Sun was scorching on us! However, this didn’t stop us from enjoying our time together snapping away with our cameras. We even had a few fans from St Theresa’s College who were waving from their auditorium.

Enjoy the pictures! :-D

The Swimming Pool

Posted on January 30th, 2010 by Jose Farrugia

Swimming is a relaxing yet rewarding activity in which one can burn several hundred calories just by swimming for half an hour. Prior to attending a debut the other Sunday I decided to bomb around and take pictures of the folks where I normally swim at. For those who are unaware, I swim at Sacred Heart Center.

Anyway, here are the series shots from my swimming pool escapade:

YOGU – Frozen Yoghurt

Posted on January 30th, 2010 by Jose Farrugia

I heard about this from a couple of friends who suggested me to go to YOGU. YOGU being short for yogurt, is a new food outlet looked at the SHELL Gas Station in Banilad, Cebu City (the one next to Sentinel condos). Moreover, the folks at YOGU were smart enough to use an old container for the store outlet. Pretty innovative!

Array

YOGU is frozen yogurt mixed with three toppings of your choice (an additional P15). The toppings are endless. Twinkle and I decided to go for blueberry, mango and cereals.

Array

There are two sizes of YOGU, small and large. Small costs around P75 while the Large at around P95. The frozen yogurt being used by YOGU isn’t sweet, however, sour. Nonetheless, this didn’t stop me from falling in love with it! Pretty awesome! Two thumbs up! Give it a try.

Another Date with Cebu Business Park

Posted on January 30th, 2010 by Jose Farrugia

I am getting myself more involved with photography lately and I could thank one person for that, my girlfriend – Twinkle Seguerra. We have been both going on short photo trips around Cebu City. The other Saturday we visited Cebu Business Park and Ayala. We must have spent an hour or two taking a series of shots, some of which can’t even be categorized. I mostly experimented with the shots and at the same time trying to get that magazine photo look.

So, the most awaited part of the whole blog post. Here are my shots:

Sto Nino Procession

Posted on January 26th, 2010 by Jose Farrugia

I am not much of a religious guy, however, I decided to take pictures at the recent Sto Nino procession which took place a day before the grand Sinulog event last January 17, 2010.

Array

The procession is a yearly religious activity where millions walk on the streets of Cebu City towards the Sto Nino Church bringing their Sto Nino religious icons. One can find devotees from all walks of life – children, the elderly and even prominent figures in Cebu.

Array

Nonetheless, it was a raining afternoon, thus, I and many other photographers around had to use plastic bags to protect our gear from the light showers.

Array

Unfortunately, I didn’t join the grand Sinulog event on Sunday as I got turned off with the weather – it was raining the whole weekend.

Array

I doubt I’ll join next year’s Sinulog photo competition as there is practically no use in doing so. The chances of having your photo picked are slim and the fact that those who are usually chosen know the event organizers – corruption at play.
